For many years, I wondered just how to get rid of urinary tract infection. My first experience of this painful condition was in my late teens and from then, until a couple of years ago, I have had more doses of antibiotics than I care to remember.
Very often, I would have a course of antibiotics for a few days, only to find that they hadn’t done the job and had to return for a further prescription. At one point, I was put on a low-dose antibiotic for 6 months to see if that would help (it didn’t!). In fact it would be fair to say that at times, it really felt that my life was being ruined. I had friends who had suffered from supposed urinary tract infections and they were still functioning normally! For me, I could not work or even go about my everyday duties because the pain was so severe. At the time, I didn’t link the two, but a friend pointed out that each infection I had seemed to be worse than the last and that this was with taking antibiotics! Could there be a relationship between the two?
With the antibiotics came other side effects. I regularly got yeast infections, stomach upsets and felt sick. I just wish I’d known then how to get rid of urinary tract infection without using medication!
I had already developed “coping strategies” over the years which would help give me a little pain relief and on the rare occasions when the infection was mild, I could sometimes stop it from developing into a full blown attack.
